Fellow Pushrodders,
June has passed us bye in the wink of an eye. July can be a busy month for car shows and cruises. As you know, our big show, Hot Rods in Hoquiam was this last weekend. Very high expectations with outcomes less than expected. As a Pushrod event, we did a very good job of planning, performing our tasks and putting on the best show that we can do. And then we got the weather reports. As we all know, you can`t control the weather. By all accounts, the bad weather reports cost us 90 to 100 cars. The vendors didn`t get the business they were hoping for and I don`t think FiveStar Motors got much attention. A huge thank you to all of you that helped with setting up, blocking the streets, selling T-shirts, registration, 50/50, raffle tickets, helping set up the sound system, taking pictures, selling bike tickets, and all of the other small things that have to happen to make things work. Don Richardson`s display was a hit. The parking crew did an outstanding job. The model car exhibit was a hit. I think that we did our job. I got lots of compliments.
The Saturday night Elvis show was once again a big hit with a packed house.
So, what do we do for next year? I think we need to change our format of how we have been doing things. Things to think about: Move our show to July 24th, make it a one-day event, maybe put on a dance – outdoors if its nice and hot or inside the Elks if its bad weather. Something different. Lots to think about. There may be some interest in doing a show at the Quinault Beach Resort and Casino. Pete Policani told me there is an interest in doing a show out at Satsop on a farm in conjunction with a plane fly in. At our last board meeting, the board approved a donation of $900 to the YMCA day care and a $5,000 contribution to the Aberdeen flag project.
